Day 3. Tbilisi - Alaverdi - Graham – Sighnaghi - Tbilisi

Kakheti - it is not only the birthplace of wine, it is also a place of interest for its rich cultural heritage and ancient traditions.
Overall there are about 30 temples in Kakheti. Among them Alaverdi and Ikalto are considered as the most famous temples and Nekresi as the oldest one.
Alaverdi - one of the most famous medieval churches in Georgia, was built at the beginning of the XI century and is located 20 km. from Telavi. It is one of the tallest buildings (45 meters) of its time. Alaverdi was the burial place of kings of Kakheti. Nekresi - the city that was built in II BC by king Parnavaz. Nekresi temple, is located in the valley of river Alazani, it consists of several religious buildings of different ages. The earliest building is a small church built at the end of IV century, shortly after the adoption of Christianity as the official religion of the state. The church was built with rough-hewn stone and stands on the foundation that has been converted into the burial chamber. In VI-VII century’s church of Blessed Virgin Mary was erected, it preserved fragments of wall inscriptions and frescoes of the XVI century. The complex as well included a Dome square church (IX cent.) and the Episcopal Palace of the XVI century.
Gremi - a beautiful city, in 1466 it became the capital of Kakheti. For that period Kakheti was an independent kingdom. The residence of a new king began to build and grow. Architects used the terrain in very clever and original way. There were church, king residence and other facilities built on the mountain. Market place was located on the west, and noble palaces on the east. For that time the whole area of the city was about 50 hectares. However Grem prosperity did not last long. The cruel ruler Shah Abbas in 1616 wiped it off the face of the earth. Gremi, prosperous city turned into a pile of ruins. Former center of Kakheti could never regain its former position, and in the middle of the XVII century Telavi became the capital of Kakheti. Today, in Gremi we can see a beautiful church of St. Archangels, built in 1565 by King Levan. The church interior is decorated with paintings that derives a great interest for religious painting lovers. Architecture is strict with concise characteristic of medieval Georgia. As a material for construction of the church were used bricks instead of stones.
Back to Tbilisi.
Another charm of Kakheti is Sighnaghi, the city of love. It was declared as a city in 1801. Sighnaghi is also a castle, it was built in 1762, unfortunately its initial look was not saved to the present days. City is situated along almost 40 hectares of land, and the heights of the castle walls is 4 km. In the castle along the perimeter you see 28 watchtowers and 5 entrances. Each tower had its name. The city retained remarkable examples of architecture of 19th century residential buildings. The structures of buildings are presented in the southern Italian classicism style with Georgian elements. The city is impressive with its magnificent history.
Day 4. Tbilisi - Vardzija - Tbilisi

One of the most impressive and grandiose historical monuments in Bordjomi is Vardzia, cave monastery, Georgian arts and cultural monument of the XII - XIII CC. This is the proof of how strong and developed Georgia was in the XII C. Vardzia consists of 13 floors and there amount of caves exceeds 3000 where 5,000 people can be living in. They had all necessary conditions for housing built in here: living cell, wine cellars, pharmacy, library and many more.
Day 5. Tbilisi- Mtskheta - Djvari - Tbilisi. Seeing off guests

Svetitshoveli from ancient times was the patriarchal cathedral, because it is the burial place of the robe of Christ. Svetitshoveli is cross domed building with fine architectural ornaments and frescoes.
Djvari Monastery is located on the hill of the mountain, east of city Mtskheta. In 20s of V century a wooden cross was erected here, as a symbol of unification of the country.

Day 3. Tbilisi - Bodbe - Sighnaghi - Tbilisi.

Now let’s visit one of Kakheti’s villages, Bodbe, it is 7km away from Sighnaghi and is considered as the national sanctuary of Georgia as there is a large monastery complex named after St. George and Episcopalian built there. Here in the village of Bodbe apostle Nino from Cappadocia, the great baptizer of Georgia found her shelter. She is the one who converted Georgia into Christianity. She passed away in 335 in age of sixty and was buried here.
The ensemble of Temple Bodbe had to be recovered and restored many times. In the XVI-XVII centuries, the village was one of the main educational centers of Georgia. In 1837 the monastery was abolished, but in 1889 they opened a convent named after St. Nino which is still active.

Day 4. Tbilisi – Ananuri - Kazbegi - Gergeti - Tbilisi

At the beginning the road will lead us to Jinvali water reservoir. Clear blue water with the background of green mountains looks amazing. 70 km from Tbilisi, on Georgian Military Highway, in an attractive location, on the shore of the water reservoir and at the confluence of river Aragvi and Vedzathevi, there is Ananuri Castle. This is the main reference point that guards the road leading to the ancient capital of Dusheti, centuries later it became the main road connecting Georgia with Russia. When you look at the old castle it looks like it grew out of the ground and took the entire space. We have only stone walls with the main quadrangle and several round towers, two domed church, and few other buildings left from this huge complex. Atmosphere is amazing! Next are mountains of Georgia, we are going to walk (2 hours) to Gergeti Trinity Church, built on top of ridge, at the foot of Kazbegi (5033m). It is an ancient spiritual masterpiece of mountain architecture, and it blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. The church was built of stones, 600 years ago and is one of the historical attractions and pride of the country!

City of Akhaltsikhe (old name Lomsiya) is the administrative center of the region of Samtskhe- Javakheti and Akhaltsikhe region. The city is located on the side of the river Potskhovi, with an altitude of 1000 m above sea level. In sources Akhaltsikhe was mentioned with its old name Lomsiya from the XII century. In the XIII-XVII centuries, the city - castle belonged to Atabag Djakeli and it was considered their ancestral possession.
In Akhaltsikhe, in part of the old town we’ll visit so-called Rabat and a large castle, which centuries ago was the palace of the sovereigns of Akhaltsikhe. The attractive part of Rabat is its ancient “Halls “. Halls represents an ancient type of Georgian folk habitation. Roman chronicler described Georgian houses as a Hall with a cover, so-called crowning, with wooden beams which are placed in a peculiar arrangement. If you look at the crown from bottom up, it looks like a pyramid. At the very top of the pyramid roof like window. The architecture of Georgian halls, as well as the decoration (ornaments and other figures carved on wood), proves the skill of our ancient masters and subtle, artistic taste of the Georgian people.
Rabat is one big town in the city. Besides historical castles, in the complex you can see towers, churches, monastic cells and modern institutions of different types, such as tourist information center, restaurant, cafe, gift and clothing shops , museums, civil wedding centers and etc.
Day 3. Akhaltsikhe - Vardzia – Tbilisi

One of the most impressive and enormous historical monuments is "Vardzia", cave monastery complex, Georgian art and cultural monument of the XII - XIII centuries. “Vardzia” is a vivid proof of how Georgia was strong and developed in the XII CE. “Vardzia” consists of 13 floors with more than 3,000 caves that was holding 5,000 people. Here you find living cells, wine cellars, pharmacy, library and all the necessary conditions for housing.
Day 4. Tbilisi - David Garedji - Sighnaghi -Tbilisi

As soon as you drive 60 kilometers from the lush green vineyards line on the road from Tbilisi to Telavi, capital of Kakheti, you will find yourself in the country of burnt grass, tumbleweed and huge flock of sheep. This is Sagaredjo, it borders Georgia with Azerbaijan.
There are ancient cave monasteries on both sides of the borders. The entire complex is known as David Gareji, and is one of the main attractions of Georgia; The monastery that saved its originality is Lavra, it consists of different buildings of the VI-XVIII centuries. Lavra is active monastery, its caves are resided by monks (caves look like cave hotel rooms somewhere in Cappadocia), they are separated from the public, are fenced and have gates. Tourists can only walk around or walk into a small Transfiguration Church, where you find graves of saints David and Lukiane. There is high rock complex on the East and the West side where you find monks’ cells and chapels.

We change the transportation and head to Tusheti .
There we will visit "Keselo" Tower and go to Gometsari Valley to see the amazing village Docha.

Day 3. Tusheti

After breakfast we visit villages: Kvemo Omalo, Shenako and Diklo. In Diklo we see "Pichekhi" towers which were standing on Russia border.
Lunch in the nature.
After lunch we go to Pirikita gorge and visit villages: Dartlo , Dano, Kxvavlo , Chesho , Parsma and Girevi.
Dinner at the guest house and free time.
