Since Georgia is surrounded with mountains, a lot of regions such as Svaneti, Khevsureti, Tusheti, Fshavi and Mtiuleti are located deep in Caucasus Mountains. All of them are distinguished by their nature and pure air, so if you like mountain and nature, hiking and riding, we recommend you visit these regions.
So Khevsureti, center of national dancing “Khanjluri” (means dancing with swords) is located on the north and south slopes of the Caucasus main watershed. Here on the north slope of Caucasus Mountains, on an off road rock, there is a castle like a village, Shatili. It is the unique heritage of Georgian construction craft. This village, erected on the rock was not only castle but a living place for the residents, it was guarding northern frontiers of Georgia for centuries (for now it is restored). Inside Shatili castle there is an Inn, where you can rest and try regional dishes.
The custodian and guard of Khevsureti entrance was village Mutso, located on 1880 m. above sea level. It is basically abolished, it had up to 40, one century old medieval houses laid out on a vertical terrace, on top of Mutso-Artodi valley. Nowadays you only see four combat castles with towers and some ruins, among of which is Torgva Castle.
Khevsureti is face of original architecture; it is a popular area for tourists and for rock climbers.
